Cool Art Project

I saw this idea for coloring salt on Design Mom and I had to try it. It looked so fun and easy and I would never have thought about trying it. All you need is salt, colored chalk and some jars. Pour a large amount of salt on a piece of paper and then rub it with a piece of chalk until you like the color, then you can pour it into the jars making different layers and patterns. The one thing I would do differently, is finding a way to seal the jar better, maybe pour the salt to the very top of the jar and then glueing the lid on so there isn't room to move or something. Brooke kept picking the jars up to look at them and the layers got all mixed up. Brooke and I had so much fun doing this, it was a great afternoon art project while Owen napped. You should try it!

Hyacinths

Spring is here, and it is so beautiful! I love spring in Tennessee. There are daffodils all over the sides of the roads, and the trees are so colorful, there are flowers everywhere, it is just so beautiful! Last fall we planted some bulbs in our front yard and I have been so excited to see them. We planted tulips and hyacinths, tulips are my favorites but I honestly didn't know what hyacinths were and now I love them. They are gorgeous! Our garden looks so great, I'm so excited. As a bonus a sweet friend of mine gave me some hyacinths in a pot and I just love the way they brighten up our house! It's so great when it looks like Spring inside and out! Hurray for spring!

March Holidays

Well, when I say I love holidays I'm not lying. Here are the March Holidays we've recently celebrated.

Dr. Seuss Day
This comes from teaching elementary school, but I love Dr. Seuss' birthday. We had green eggs and ham for breakfast and then read all the Dr. Seuss books we have in our house. Brooke was so excited that her pre-school teachers dressed up as the cat in the hat.

Pi Day (3.14) For one of our first dates Reid took me out for pie on pi day and we have continued the tradition. I made chicken pot pie for dinner and banana cream pie for dessert, yumm! I know we're nerdy, but I figure any excuse for a pie is a good one!

St. Patrick's Day
The kids LOVED making and eating the rainbow pudding. Brooke has also gone a little crazy drawing rainbows this month, she's been drawing them everywhere. She insisted on taking a picture of this one because "It's just so beautiful mom, I don't ever want to forget how beautiful I can draw."

Singing in the Rain

I LOVE kids rain gear. I don't know what it is about raincoats and rainboots but they make me happy. I'd been wanting to buy the kids rain stuff for a while, but it was never at the top of our list, but last week it had been raining so much so we went and bought them some stuff. I don't think they have taken their boots off all week, they just love them. Owen was really upset on Sunday when we wouldn't let him wear his rainboots to church :). I think they look so cute, Owen reminds me of Paddington bear.
