Family Visit and Trail Running

Reid's parents and his sister Amber came to visit.  It was so great to see them.  It was their first time seeing Millie so they had fun snuggling with her, and playing around with Brooke and Owen.  We spent a day at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga which was really cool.

The butterflies were much more active than they have been in the past.  Brooke loved that they were landing all over her.  Isn't that one above beautiful?

Owen really didn't like the butterfly room, this is his grumpy face.

This sea turtle is named Oscar, he lost his back flippers when he was in an accident with a boat.

Don't those sharks look freaky?

Lunch at TGIFridays

Reid and his dad grilled ribs one day.  They were amazing! Those are Reid's  crazy meat eyes!

Owen had croup when they were here, and was pretty grumpy and exhausted the whole time.

Brooke adores Amber.  She loved seeing her and hanging out with her for a little.

A couple summers ago Reid and I starte doing a little trail running.  We really loved it and Reid kept on doing a little here and there while I stopped running altogether, gained a bazillion pounds and had a baby.  Since having Millie, I've been trying to get running again and Reid has kind of taken off going on longer runs and really getting into it. Anyways, there was a trail race we wanted to do and Reid's parents kindly drove up to the mountains with us and watched our kids while we ran.  Reid did a 17.5 mile race, while I thought I might be able to handle the 10 k option.  We got to start together and run the first 3 miles together before we split off.  Reid did great and I finished my 6 miles before any of the runners from the 17 mile race finished so that was a victory for me. We had a great time.  It was fun to get to run together in such a beautiful area.

I kind of feel like a runner again

I ran cross country in high school and I loved it. It was definitely one of my favorite things about high school. I was never super fast but, I loved the friends I made and I loved running. But when I got into college I stopped running regularly. After I had Owen I decided to try to get back into running again. It has taken awhile, but I am starting to feel like a runner again. Running makes me so happy, I just love it! Yesterday I ran a 5k and it was so much fun! My goal was to run it in under 24 min. and I finished in 23:53. So it was nice to get in under my goal and just have fun. I am so glad I am running again!
Pardon the super crazy face, I don't know what I was doing!

Half Marathon

Reid and I ran a half marathon this morning. The actual race didn't quite go as I was hoping. We were hoping to be under 2 hours and we came in at 2:20. I am pretty dissapointed because we had been feeling so good on our runs, last week we ran 11 miles in 1:25. But mentally I was not really with it today and I just never got going. My sweet husband could have done so much better, but he stayed with me and kept me going. But we finished and it was kind of fun! Anyways, getting ready for this race has been so fun. We have really loved running together, we both agreed it is one of the funnest things we've done together. And we are so appreciative to all of our friends who watched our kids so we could go on long runs on Saturdays, you guys are the best!

Mud Run

We did a 5k mud run with some friends this morning and we had so much fun! It was a marine corp. mud run so they had a lot of different obstacles: tires, a wall, logs to climb over and logs to crawl under, tunnels, 2 parts in the water and of course mud. It was so much fun to be able to do this with Reid (our friends nice sister watched the kids during the race for us, thanks again!). After the 5k they had a little mud run through one of the mud pits and it was so funny! Brooke wasn't quite sure what to think about all the mud, but she did it! Luckily it was at a lake so we could just jump in afterwards and wash off!

5K

Two of my goals this summer were 1)run a 5k and 2) run a 6 min. mile. Well, I am laughably no where near the 2nd one but I did do the 1st one. I hadn't really ran a race since high school so I was a little nervous, but it was great! My goal was to be under 30 min. and my time was 29:13 (in my secret hopes I was shooting for 27 min). It was a really hilly race, but it was just so fun to race again!

Brooke also enjoyed the race, and was busy copying all the runners stretching, we'll have to let her do a fun run next year.
