I had been thinking a lot lately about making Brooke a job chart, but I didn't want to do one that we constantly had to be putting stickers or checks on, I was wanting something that she could be more independent with and this is what I decided on. I took pictures of Brooke's six jobs: get dressed, make bed, brush teeth, set table, clear dirty dishes, and clean up toys. Then I made two magnetic hooks one for her jobs and one for when they are done, so when she finishes the job she just switches the picture over. We've been using them for about a week and I really like it. I feel like she understands more that these are her responsibilities and she has to do them before she can play and she is able to do her "job chart" by herself.
So now I'm wondering about a reward. Should we pay her for doing her jobs (I'm thinking a dollar or two a week), or should she be learning that helping out is just something that everyone needs to do? Is this a great opportunity to start teaching her about money or would it just make her think she has to get paid to do anything? I'm not really sure where I'm leaning on this, any thoughts?

Wow. Very organized. I haven't done anything like that for Carmen. We've given Carmen a money jar (she earns money by staying dry at night). I like giving her a chance to buy things that I would never get for her. She's learned quickly that its harder to buy stuff when its her money. And then it opened us up to the tithing talk which was also good. So long story short --- we like money.
I would say for the things she has to do daily- she should not get paid. But give her additional chances to do other jobs and earn. I love that chart idea...I like that the reward is to play. That she does it because she is a member of the family.
I like that chart! good idea. I'm not really sure about the money? it seems like it could be good either way... you could always pay her in rewards/outings??? maybe that would be a happy medium?
I love the picture idea-I'm totally stealing it-hope that's cool:). I agree with Katie, my kids have chores they have to do and if they ever want to earn money I'll give them an extra job like helping clean a bathroom=nickel, I know we're cheap but they're happy with a trip to the dollar store and "paper money" has become a BIG deal. I've also started charging my kids if I have to do certain things for them-it's working great for now:)
That's a great idea! I hope I can remember that when Wyatt gets old enough.
Wow awesome idea with turning the pictures! So age appropriate. I would suggest teach money separately from chores. Teach that chores are part of living in a family and is your responsibility as a privilege of living in this home. But offer a group reward when all is done-a trip to the park, one on one outing with mom or dad, going out for ice cream as a family. You could pay money for additional jobs but Brooke is still young yet. I would save till about age 7-9.
